LGBTQIA+ Therapy in Los Angeles
You Shouldn't Have to Explain Yourself to Your Therapist
You've thought about therapy. Maybe you've even tried it. But there's a particular kind of tired that comes from spending half your session educating your therapist about your own life.
You shouldn’t need to explain your pronouns, translate your relationship or brace a little every time you mention your partner. You should feel completely safe to be and express yourself.
Therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients at Diversified Therapy LA means you can show up already understood. This is a space where your queerness isn't a topic to get through, but a part of the fullness of who you are.
What is LGBTQIA+ Therapy?
LGBTQ therapy (sometimes called LGBT counseling or queer-affirming therapy) is therapy where you don't have to explain your queerness while you're seeking support.
General therapy supports people through healing, processing, and transition. Queer therapy does all of that, and something more. It nods to a long tradition of celebrating — literally dancing — through unimaginable times. Healing here can be non-traditional, deeply personal, and instinctual.
You are free to bring all of you. We meet all of you.
How LGBTQIA+ Therapy Helps
Moving through a world that wasn't built with you in mind creates real stress and you deserve real support.
Show up as yourself from day one
No assumptions about your pronouns, your chosen name, or your partner's gender. We ask and we listen.
Carry less of what was never yours to carry
Things like family rejection, religious trauma, minority stress. We help you release the weight you've been carrying.
Make sense of who you are and who you're becoming
Whether you're just starting to ask questions or figuring out how to live your identity more fully.
Handle everyday life, too
Anxiety, work stress, relationships. Being queer doesn't mean that's all we'll talk about.
Areas we support
Coming Out and Identity Development
If you're just starting to ask questions about who you are, or you already know, and you're figuring out how to live it more fully, this is a space we hold with you. There's no timeline and no right way to do this. We move at your pace.
Religious and Faith-Based Trauma
If faith or upbringing once felt like something you had to survive rather than something that held you, you're not alone in that. We support clients carrying church-related trauma and beyond, including the values you had to deconstruct and rebuild for yourself.
Family Rejection and Chosen Family
If the people closest to you haven't caught up to who you are, you know how heavy that gap can feel. We help you navigate tricky familial relationships, grieve what needs grieving, and build connections that actually hold you.
Gender Identity and Transition Support
We've been lucky enough to walk alongside clients through their transition journeys. Wherever you are in yours, questioning, affirming, or somewhere in between — you set the direction.
Relationships Outside the Traditional Script
Maybe you're building a partnership that doesn't look like what you were raised to expect. Our LGBTQ+ friendly therapists work with relationship dynamics of every shape, without centering heteronormative frameworks you'd have to translate yourself out of.
Living in an Unsteady World
If the ever-changing legal and societal landscape for LGBTQIA+ people has you feeling unsteady — day to day, or with an eye to the future — you don't have to navigate that alone. It helps to have a therapist who understands.
Who This Is For
Our LGBTQIA+ clients are creating their own roles outside of heteronormative ideals in their relationships, in their careers, and in their communities.
Some are navigating coming out. Some are working through family relationships that got complicated. Some are moving through transition. And all of them are also managing the everyday stressors we all carry, such as work, love, anxiety, the future.
If you've been searching for therapists for LGBTQIA+ individuals who actually get it, we are here for you.

Our Approach to LGBTQIA+ Therapy
From our very first consultation, you're met with supportive curiosity. We don't assume your pronouns, your chosen name, or your partner's gender. We ask, as part of getting to know you and the fullness of your life. And we don't expect you to know every in and out of queer life either. It's a big umbrella. We explore the aspects that matter most to you, together.
Sessions here feel human, not clinical. We bring in education and therapeutic skills gained and passed on through books, TV, movies, and music, because sometimes the best therapy homework is a Paris Is Burning rewatch.
This approach comes from lived experience. Community is everything to Kristen, and it's a joy for her to support her folx. The cultural humility she brings comes from her own intersectionality as a queer Black woman, someone who had to define what success looks like for her, and what partnership looks like outside the heteronormative standards she was raised with in the Midwest. There were values and ideals she had to deconstruct and rebuild to live the fullest version of her life.
Whether you're just beginning to name who you are, rebuilding after family or faith fell short, loving in a way that was never on the traditional script, or moving through transition — you set the direction, and we walk it with you.
